Frequently Asked Questions

Are shipping containers weatherproof?

Shipping containers are designed to securely transport cargo worldwide, featuring wraparound seals on their doors to ensure they are watertight. However, despite their robust construction, shipping containers do not float and will sink if submerged in water.

What is the weight of a shipping container?

The weight of an empty container, or its average tare weight, depends on its size. Typically, it ranges from approximately 2.5 tonnes for a 20-foot container, 3 tonnes for a 30-foot container, and 4 tonnes for a 40-foot container.

What's a used container?

We only accept used shipping containers that are at least ten years old. Despite their age and international use, these containers remain weatherproof and structurally sound. Even as used containers, they are built to last, typically enduring over 20 years with minimal maintenance after purchase.

Can shipping containers be stacked?

Open-top containers cannot be stacked, but our standard and high-cube shipping containers are stackable. If stacking is required, we provide twist lock pins to securely fasten the containers on top of each other.

Why buy a container from Container Prod AU?

We are one of the leading providers of both new and used shipping containers for sale. With over a decade of experience, our team is ready to assist with any questions, large or small. We offer a range of solutions, from standard self-storage options to customized modifications.

To what extent are shipping containers secure?

Shipping containers are designed with a focus on strength and security. However, if padlocks on locking bars are compromised, the security of the container may be at risk. To prevent unauthorized access, we recommend using a lockbox paired with a high-security, approved padlock. We offer the CEN 4-rated Squire Stronghold container padlock, which fits within a lockbox to safeguard your container and its contents. For additional peace of mind, you can also add extra security features such as wireless or portable alarms.
